It’s National Restart a Heart Day today, Thursday 16th October, and Northwich is shining a light on the power of partnership and community collaboration – ensuring that life-saving defibrillators and CPR training are accessible across the town centre.
Through the collective efforts of local organisations, including Northwich Town Council, Northwich BID, Northwich Rotary Club, Brio Leisure, Barons Quay and local businesses, a growing network of publicly accessible defibrillators has been installed throughout the town, as well as blood loss kits in the town centre cabinets. These include units in key areas such as Barons Quay, the car park between Asda and H&M, and the Rose Meadow Estate on Artisan Way. All the devises are checked, maintained and managed by Northwich Town Council.
In addition, Northwich BID has trained 44 businesses in the town centre, ensuring there’s always someone close by who has the knowledge and the confidence to use a defibrillator should the occasion arise.
To mark the national awareness day, Brio Leisure will be hosting a special event outside Asda Barons Quay on Thursday 16th October, from 10am–12pm, offering demonstrations, hands-on CPR practice, and guidance on how to use a defibrillator.
Northwich Town Mayor Cllr Julie Macdonald said: “I am extremely proud of the work and commitment that has gone into providing these life saving devices to our residents and visitors to our town. By working with partners we can achieve so much more than working in isolation, Northwich Town Council will continue to support installing these devices ensuring that all our community will have access to and AED 24 hours a day.”
Chris Appleton, Gym & Fitness Lead at Brio Leisure said: “We’re excited to support our community this National Restart a Heart Day! We’ll be outside Asda Barons Quay, providing hands-on experience with CPR and defibrillators. It’s all about giving people the confidence and knowledge to act in an emergency, because every second counts! You never know when you could save a life, and we’re proud to continue supporting initiatives that help keep Northwich and Brio members safe.”
Lynn Riley, Northwich BID Manager said: “Northwich is a town that truly looks out for its people. Through collaboration with our partners, we’ve created a network of defibrillators and trained individuals who could one day help save a life. It’s a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.”
